Bence Jones proteins (BJP), initially known as urinary proteins precipitating at 56-64°C and redissolv-ing on boiling, are now defined as monoclonal free immunoglobulin (Ig) light chains (LC) (polyclonal free LC that may be found in urine are not BJP). Their characterization and quantification is of importance because of their diagnostic and prognostic significance.
